Today is one of these days!
Aug. 11th, 2007 02:03 amSo I haven't made a proper blog in over a month now. Now that I'm into my little break between exams, I probably have the time to do so.
Lessee. I kinda dropped into a hole for most of July, as every single one of my classes (all three of them) decided to have multiple large things due between the period of July 16th and July 30th, and then my Chinese written test followed two days after that, and the Chinese oral exam and the End of Semester Social was two days after that. Hooray for not getting anything done other than schoolwork!
That's not completely true, though. I did end up going to Ontario two weekends ago for one of Travis's (many) cousin's wedding. I hadn't been on a plane in ages, and it was nice to see that they haven't changed at all one bit since 2003. XD Read HP:DH between the two flights, but I already commented on that.
The wedding itself was nice, and there was the requisite feasting, drinking, and dancing. I did not wear heels this time, which was a smart move on my part, but the backs of the damn shoes still left me with scabs that... haven't gone away yet. >.>
I hadn't really been to Ontario before (aside from a week spent in near-Manitoba foresty parts and a stopover or two in Pearson), but there really wasn't all that much to see, since the weekend was so small. We stayed in his aunt's house, which is in some small burough called Port Perry, outside of Toronto. Kind of reminded me of Saint John, except way, way smaller (I think it was the bricks everywhere). Also, the bugs are horrible and terrible and everywhere. Bleh. I would like to go back someday to actually see Toronto, though, do the touristy thing. We didn't get to see much of it except the highways (which are terrifying).
The visit did get a little overwhelming, though, particularly during the gift-opening party on Sunday. I went and hid in the basement for a while under the pretense of doing homework... which I actually did do, mind, because it was due on the Monday, but, sheesh. I have never seen any time where a family actually gets crowds going. Way too many of them when they all get together. *shiver*
Also, the constant stream of "HOMG SO YOU GUYS ARE NEXT HUH? :D" got a little wearing.
Next event of note was the EoSS, which Aimee and I put together. The previous one, in the spring semester, was a joke. We did much better this time, I think... Although attendance wasn't all that awesome - people just didn't seem to be on campus. >.> But there was a few carnival games (eeheehee we had a duck pond, and the ring toss was insanely hard), there was cotton candy and pizza, and silly movies, and it was all cool. Lots of stuffies, too, hehe... We managed to give away most of the prizes, except for one bag of the smaller stuffies (I think we're donating that to the childcare centre) and a few of the bouncy balls, so that was something of an accomplishment. Apparently some winners were wandering around campus with the bigger prizes (a couple of giant stuffed frogs, a big Hello Kitty plushie, and some other stuff) in tow, attracting some attention. XD
The only really low point was that the balloon drop got halfways through, and then stopped for an hour, because of the noise - stupid thesis defenses always being nearby, grrrr.
My first/second final was on Tuesday, for MACM. Egh. I am glaaaaad that course is over. I never did that badly on the homework assignments, but that was usually because I could look at the problems, pore over them for a (sometimes very) long while, and eventually jot something down that was more or less right - the only one I got a terribly low score on was one where I didn't have the time to do it properly because I was so busy. But the exams were another thing entirely - I can't do the sort of problem solving needed for that course under the pressure of time, at all. I scraped a C+ on the midterm, which was something of a relief, but I did worse on the final, worth 60% of the course grade. >.> But I passed, at least, if what Burton's e-mail to us says is right (although the marks still have to be 'passed by' the administration, whatever that means). C minuses are for degreeeeeeeeeees...? Maybe?
But at least I only have one more CMPT course to take. I'll find something easy and get that over with next year.
Kind of disappointed, though - I missed a chance to go up to Trav's cabin over that weekend, since I couldn't afford missing the studying time. Sigh. At least we're going on a camping trip to some unknown location next weekend.
Therefore, socioling is the last final left, and that's not until Thursday. I expect it to be pretty easy, since it's of the format of the first midterm, and isn't cumulative. I just basically have to read the book and his notes, and... that's it.
Won't be taking courses next semester. Linmark wants me back - Jen just e-mailed me yesterday, and we've got things sorted out there (apparently everyone was 'very pleased' with my performance last year). I even gets a raise, from 12 to 13 bucks, hehe.
So I'll be doing that starting in October, for their busy season. That won't be so bad... I'll just have to work out the car thing with mom again.
Dad's apparently moving back in in mid-September. Not sure how I feel about that yet.
Asshole did manage to go and royally screw himself over, though, and believe you me when I say I am laaaaaaughing. Oh, perhaps it's horrible of me, but he's gone and got himself Type 2, ahahaha. He got what was coming to him, though - knows its in his family, and still drank himself to the point where he's now about as round as a balloon. Maybe now he'll get what it's like, eh? Gets off easy, though, so far - they're only putting him on one of the oral meds.
Good news may be that we might be getting a new kitty! :D Kittykitty. Marmaduke's been getting lonely lately, which I've noticed - she's even more clingy with me now than normal, and comes looking for me at all random hours of the day and night. (And she was in the sink in the laundry room for no reason at all earlier tonight...?) Hopefully she can get along with new!kitty and they'll keep each other company.
There is a debate on what to name him (I think it's a him, anywhoo). I say we should keep in line with the cartoon dog names of the opposite gender of the cat theme, and thus far Perdita wins in my mind, since kitten is rumoured to be black and white.
(Sean claims it is going to be his cat, but I say there will having to be waiting and seeing on that matter. You don't pick the cat, the cat picks you.)
So, now, this only leaves me with a big giant hole in September to think of things to do. I'll probably be busy helping out with Froshweek (theme this year's the mafia, heh; what good female gangsters exist?) during the first week of classes since I'll have all that free time and all, but aside from that... I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll spend it getting into some form of shape that is not my current one. Maybe I'll finally sign up for a martial arts class. Maybe I'll cure cancer.
Well, maybe not that last one, but curing... gynaecomastia, maybe. I could cure that. Gods know that the earth shudders upon every new occurance of moobs in her children.
And I'll probably, finally get to do some actual RPing again, which makes me feel happy. Started with that tonight, actually - Icewing's in the process of rescuing some bloke from a chilly death on her mountain range, in a strange take on the traditional anka tales. XD
Serenne is also ready to go forth and kick ass again, I finally made the kit that I promised Rai and Sulyn, and I've been doing some half-decent posts on Dragon Canyon over the past week. Maybe the writing talent is doing its migratory return. Hooray!
