Well, it wasn't just the boot record that was corrupted. Half of the hard drive ended up failing due to somethingorother. Thankfully, most of the stuff in my data partition was okay, and I had backups (admittedly nine-month-old backups, but I wasn't using my computer for six months of that) for most of what wasn't. I got the OS reloaded after a few days of hair-pulling (hate the fact that WinXP/SP2 doesn't come with SATA drivers, rgh), and finally got everything else hooked back up again today.
If I'm missing anything at this point (besides random applications - I know I don't have printer drivers yet, or a BT client), I'll figure it out when I'm suddenly missing it, I guess. XD
I do have the worst luck with hard drives, though. Have to be more vigilant about doing backups into the future, and be prepared to buy a new one, I guess, for when this one decides to completely kick the bucket.
Agh, if only I could have Trav's bad luck with graphics cards. Data loss is so much more traumatic.
