I don't care what anyone (specifically, my linguistics argumentation professor, though) says. "Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" is a terrible sentence and anyone who uses it in a serious paper is saying, in other words, "neener neener, I'm a hack that knows more than j00, see, look at my big words".

And I can't even use a semicolon where I'd like to in that example, because it'd break the voice.
