So on the latest post to get deleted over on Metaquotes due to excessive wank, I managed to attract the attention of the original quotee.

You see, the post'd been layers of sarcasm and disgust towards Barack Obama. Posting it on the quite-liberal MQ was probably a bad idea, but the quotee and quoter decided to see how much controversy it'd stir up. Everyone obliged, of course. I mean, the quote was funny in a sort of hyper-snark fashion, but people generally tend to get overwound when it comes to politics.

For the record, I don't understand that kind of reaction, myself. I care little about American politics as is, insofar as they don't go screwing over other countries (why hello thar, softwood lumber!) with their international policies. Whatever. I don't have any abject hatred towards Harper, though I don't like a majority of his policies and views of the world. I don't care much for Dion either, but I'll probably vote Liberal unless I have another fit of pique at the polls and go Green again. (I'm just like that.)
But these people! They idolize their chosen candidates, and spew piles venom at the other side - same party or no! It's rather ridiculous.

Anywhoo. People were complaining of unfunny on all sides, and the requisite political talk started. I pointed out at some point that Obama isn't actually left-wing or even centrist. He's still a righty, regardless of what some people think.

Y'know, there's this thing called a sliding left-right spectrum scale? Most Republicans, as far as I understand, are waaaaay over there on the right. Most Democrats are also waaay over there on the right, but not quite waaaaay. Sure, the Dems might seem left wing to anyone in the states, but compared to the rest of the world? Right. Right right right. Shit, take a look at the NDP here (slightly left-wing) or whatever political party was in charge of the Finnish jail system - or, really, most of Europe in general.
There are some, however, who seem to think that everything not in the States does not exist.

So the quotee and the quoter derided me on the quotee's journal, saying that my statement about how I haven't seen any evidence that Obama was centrist or left-wing was the funniest thing they'd heard all night. Well, okay. I guess that's their opinion.

However, saying that Che Guevara was a moderate, and Mao Zedong just a little bit left, right after that?

Wow. Wow.

Hey guys, did you know that General Franco was a moderate? How 'bout that Mussolini guy, he was a great example of a slightly right dude. Oh, and that one guy from Germany who's name I can't invoke quite yet because that'd be way too early for Godwin's Law to take effect? He was awesomely right wing, in the best sort of way~

Holy shit, you morons. Stop being so goddamned xenophobic and learn about the world outside of your country! Stop clinging to your hate-filled rhetoric towards anyone who doesn't agree with you in the slightest! Start paying attention to other people around you, or contributing something positive to the world, maybe, besides a bunch of bitching and mockery that makes you look like a bunch of buffoons. Or, hey, what was the word for it? Bitter?

But then, I'm just some loopy left-wing liberal pinko commie, a gun-scorning peacemonger, a granola-munching treehugging yuppie/hippie, a dorky roleplaying furry, a god-defying pagan heretic, a pro-choice pro-equality anti-poverty anti-profiting-off-people's-misery demon of a babyeating Canadian woman, of all things, living in an igloo in the middle of the frigid friggin' north where no serious business ever happens, so what the fuck do I know, eh?

Ahem.

Other than that, life's been okay recently. Back to class for a few weeks, although just about all of my classes are giantly boring (socioling's looking okay, aside from the whole research paper thing) and full of stupid people who force the instructors to go at a snail's pace. I'm about ready to choke one guy in my phonetics class.

Also, the heat wave we had over the weekend was kind of nuts. I almost have a tan, now. And the thunderstorm this morning was really neat, even if it did wake me up with the first kaboom at five o'clock this morning. I watched it for a bit, before rolling over and - not actually getting back to sleep 'cause that was about when the sky opened up and flooded the streets. Hehe.

But I must stop the ranting and get back to homework. Although the four-day constant weekend is really nice (even though I have to find a job pretty shortly), it kinda means that all my assignments are due right around the same period of time. Bleh.
