As the you may have garnered from the title, it's been a rather off-putting few days, mainly due to some conspiracy between my own computer, and the new woman at work.
My computer, I think, has mostly decided to roll over and die. The cooling system, at the very least, anywhoo. It's been overheating like mad the past week or two, causing it to freeze and refuse to reboot, wanting at least five hours to pass before it has the spunk to try again.
If that little.
I cleaned out the CPU fan - and I believe that's the most dust I've ever seen on anything in my life. This bugger went for four and a half years, almost five, with never being cleaned. It's a wonder we've not had problems with the compy overheating before this.
That seemed to help for a day, but it's just started back up worse than before. Am beginning to wonder if it may have something to do with the power source's fan, but I don't particularly wanna pry that out and clean it, too.
In the worst case (once I figure out what's really wrong with it), we'll end up needing to replace the CPU fan, power supply, processor, and motherboard - and at that point, it'd just be cheaper to get a new computer.
Which wouldn't hurt at all.
As for work... The new gal's been there for a week and a half, now, and she's still making me pull my hair out in frustration. Today was the worst day yet - I felt like just wilting in the office and having a good storm of tears for a little bit (although I forget what exactly she did to trigger that now).
I ended up doing next to no work for the first four hours I was there, and then having to work my ass off to finish everything that didn't get done within the next two. Most of that next-to-none was due to her frigging around with the computer system, trying to figure out how to do billing... And being told repeatedly by my boss to stop answering her questions and let her understand for herself.
My personality is such that I'm far too impatient, and far too swift-thinking in some things, to be a teacher of any sort.
So when she finally removed herself from the machine, I was able to start on all four periods of billing I needed to get done, doing daysheets, filing and pulling charts, figuring out the reports, and everything else that was left for me to do - and none of this takes a short period of time to do.
After that, my boss and I had a good discussion of how to hopefully teach the dolt on Thursday - I'm having a three-hour session of doing nothing but billing with her. If she doesn't learn the most simple of the billing ways by Thursday's end... She'll be gone.
Which'll leave me with another idiot to train. Booyah.
They don't pay me enough for this... >.>
The only thing that hugely bothers me is that she seems to have made herself at home - which was annoying anyways, but will be hard to deal with if we have to fire her. She's moved about all my pens and pencils and everything I use to run the clinic - rearranged and reorganized all of it. She's brought in plants - horrendously smelly ones that give you a headache if you go near them for too long.
I don't know where to find anything anymore because of this 'organization' - but on the other hand, she's leaving piles upon piles of notes to herself EVERYWHERE, and they're driving me insane.
And she has to write down every single fecking thing I tell her!
And looks at me all teary-eyed when I try and show her how to do something - at painfully slow speed!
GAAAAAAH.
But moving on. I do realize I've done more than enough ranting here - and to poor Trav, who has borne the brunt of my whining over the past howeverlong that both these problems have been plaguing me.
School's been mostly fine as of late - the 275 project-group now consists of meself, Trav, Max, Nhan, and Ryan. Who wasn't my personal choice, as his attitude really annoys me - he thinks far too highly of himself for what his actual capabilities are.
I mean, I know that I was fully arrogant throughout high school, but at least now that I've learned how dumb I truly am, I don't go about with such airs any more!
Gyarh.
But hopefully things'll go okay.
The other two classes I can't say much about yet - Stat's still in introductory mode, and I haven't been to a 212 class since the first one.
Apparently all the instructor does is read from slides consisting of stuff that's all in the text anyways, so. Maybe I'll give it another go on Thursday.
Apparently I am a candidate for the Polar Plunge that is being held to raise money for the Variety Children's Charity - usually, it's the crazy engineers that go and throw themselves in the pond atop of the AQ, but this year we're in on it too, and of course, competing against them to raise the most money.
I wonder how much folk'll pay for me to take multiple dives in? XD
I've also signed up to help plan the App Sci Formal this year. Our first thing on the agenda is to find some place to hold the thing...
And I just realized that I worked in catering for a few months, and have seen a few venues. ^^;;; I wonder if they'd be averse to holding it at that rowing club down at Stanley Park... The only places I served at that weren't in Surrey were it and a place out in the French quarter of Coquitlam. The club's a very nice place. Dunno about rates or anything, but I can find out.
On an even more good note, though...
I realized today that my hope of writing some sort of novel, or something, is actually DOABLE. Characters I have by the hundreds - more if I can convince the kitsune-folk to let me write about them - plots aplenty, and a full-fledged setting to fling my plots and characters about in.
What place better than a place I already know quite well?
The kitsune-story'd be harder, since it's not been in 'development' quite as long, but as for the first... That doesn't even have any sort of moniker yet... XD It'd work.
I'll have to see if I can't start something on it sooner or later.
Now then, I have eagle features to study, so I shall be off for the moment... Ta!
