My daemon started out as an ocelot! (EDIT: It has since been a lynx, a ferret, and back to a lynx again. XD) I do not know how it will finally settle, though. What think youuu?

(I'm still totally afraid they're going to screw up the movie. How can you adapt these without mentioning religion?)

Narnia made it through Hollywood with minimal mention of religion.

Yeah, but Narnia didn't actively deal with religion. Everyone knew it was an allegory, but they didn't come right out and say anywhere that Aslan was a representation of Jesus or something (as far as I can remember; it's been a while since I read the books).

His Dark Materials, on the other hand, actively has huge churches, and secret church organizations, and angel-like beings, and The Authority who is basically akin to the Christian god, and he... Damnit! The worst of it I can't even say without totally spoiling things!

You just can't do it.

Then they do it as is. Whoop de.

Religion can feature in hollywood movies.

Or did you miss out on the whole Da Vinci Bullshit?

But the director said he wasn't going to include any religion as;lgkdhgasdlfjsdlfj.

I am not Christian, as I'm sure it's been made clear. I do, however, love those books, and am perfectly fine with the way things were treated within. The movies will not, of course, be perfect - they rarely are - but I'm just hoping they won't be truly awful.

(Although I always have imagined Nicole Kidman as the character of Mrs. Coulter, oddly enough.)

No, I never paid much attention to the Da Vinci Code. Didn't really interest me, either in book form or movie.

I'm not sure how it will work out then.

I suppose I'm a horrible person for not having read HDM now, aren't I?

*shrug* Just have to wait and see.

Not a horrible person, no. Why should anyone be judged on what they haven't read? XD (Now, if you were in the habit of reading Harlequin romances or somesuch...) I can heartily recommend them, however, if you are in the need of an interesting read. The third book, especially, is rather awesome.

I just have never had them, and owe money at every library in the lower mainland (oops!). I am interested, and always need new reading material.

I just don't have them to read, you know?

...Maybe you should get around to paying the fines? XD I'm sure the libraries would be grateful.

I myself borrowed them initially, but I finally found a nice boxed set at Chapters six months ago. <3

Ahh, but that would amount to several hundred dollars I don't have, alas.

(Not all the fines are mine, mind you, but they are in my name.)

...Several hundred?

Sheesh, what'd you/other people do, keep books for a few years?

I've had people lose books on my account, and accidentally destroy others, and the like.

And because it's a library, the replacement cost on a lost $8 paperback is closer to $30

Aaah, I see. Replacement costs are really that high? I've never lost a book before, hehe.

It's because of all the time involved in acquisition, cataloguing, labelling, tagging and in some cases, laminating the covers and the like.

All that time costs money.
