Small Thoughts and Weakening
Jul. 30th, 2007 10:04 pmOne of these days, I really will make a substantial blog entry about what's been going on lately, but for now, I just feel like writing this.
Bought it Thursday, read half on the plane ride to Toronto on Friday, finished it this morning on the plane ride back.
Overall, liked it. The Snape stuff was nice, even if I didn't like him that much as a character to begin with. Hedwig kinda made me go "OH NOEZ" a little, but strangely, not many of the human characters that got offed did (Fred kinda hurt, though). Little disappointed that Tonks/Lupin/Luna/other Hogwarts defenders didn't get much time, but the show was Harry's, after all. Dobby? Eh. It was just the fact that it kinda got spoiled beforehand by that one BRPS post, but still, I never much connected with him in the first place.
Narcissa really shone, though, for having been a pretty minor character in the scheme of things. What would have happened if...? Heh.
(And the Bellatrix/Ms Weasley scene almost made me break out into hoots of laughter on the plane this morning. That was great.)
One thing's kinda coloured the whole book for me, though. Seriously, read the chapters starting with Harry staggering off into the forest up until he comes 'back', but play this song in the background:
It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken
I can see it in my head as an animation, greys and scratchy, pencil-sketched drawings moving, shadows flittering, scenes flashing back and forth between the forest and the castle, him and the Eaters and the defenders and their dead, and later, into the white, where twinklies await.
Sparse use of colour, I think. On the second repetition of 'as to almost make it glow', green, yes. Blue in the twinkle. Right at the end, a twitch of the fingers and colour floods into the picture. But other than that, grey, black, purple maybe...?
S'one of those times I wish I could draw. It's beautiful in my head.
