So I found out tonight that Trav has never seen most of the HOMG AWESOME movies that I grew up watching as a kid.

I mean, I knew he hadn't seen The Princess Bride a couple years back, but we rectified that one almost immediately.

But he hasn't seen Willow, or Watership Down, or The Secret of NIMH or The Last Unicorn, and a whole other list of stuff. *cracks knuckles* So now I've got a fantasy-and-animated -movies-of-the-80s-and-previous-years marathon to get started on.

Any suggestions for the list? I've got a bunch down, but I want to make sure I don't forget any!

In related news, you can get a signed (by the author of the novel) 25-anniversary edition of The Last Unicorn for 25 bucks, with over half the money of the sales going to him. Apparently he's had problems getting royalty payments - the folks at Granada, who own the animated rights, pretty much decided to ignore the contract he had with the original studio (since bought out by Grenada). Conlan Press, his publisher, is offering the DVD through their website to try and rectify a bit of that damage.
Alas, I am poor, so I am merely going for the 15-buck unsigned edition.

In less-related news, a couple of times in the past year I've been reminded about a fantasy show I remember watching when I was... shit, I dunno. Between 4 and 8, so likely sometime in the early nineties. It aired on YTV and had puppets in it, and it was not Groundling Marsh (I also remember watching that one, but it came later).
The big part of why I remember it is because it was kinda dark in tone. Very early on in the show, someone - a prince, if I remember at all correctly, but someone important, anyway - was killed. By stabbing, I think. This served quite a lot of purpose in moving the plot along.
So, we have darkish fantasy puppet-oriented TV show that was somewhat aimed at kids and had a kind of brutal murder onscreen in the first few episodes.
I can't for the life of me remember its name, and all of my searches into shows aired previously on YTV, or shows with puppets, or anything of the sort has led me absolutely nowhere.
Either I'm imagining things, crazy (which is probably true, but for different reasons), or the show exists and no one remembers but me.
I'd really like some confirmation of its existence, if only to find out a little more about the plot and such again; I only saw two or three episodes of it whenever it aired, and I remember it being interesting, but the details (except for the aforementioned murder) have all fled from my mind.

Help?

Neverending Story
Labyrinth
Dark Crystal
Legend

Don't know the show, but perhaps you can start at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Television_programs_featuring_puppetry

Doesn't have everything. Groundling Marsh isn't on there for instance, but it's a good list.

I asked my roomie, who is your age, if she had any ideas. Nada.

I suggest reposting this on a question community like [livejournal.com profile] ljgenie or [livejournal.com profile] ask_me_anything. Or I can do that for you if you'd like.

Oh, he's actually seen the Neverending Story, hehe. That was one of the ones I asked him about last night. Forgot about Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal... I don't think even I've seen Legend, hrm. It doesn't sound familiar.

That list doesn't seem to have it. I looked at everything that I didn't recognize, and none of them matched up.

Do those communities allow posting without joining, heh?

I directed another friend towards this last night, but she had no ideas either.

How could you forget Labyrinth, and the infamous Bowie Bulge?

They require joining to post, alas. But I'm a member of both.

I can always post for you, then give you the links so you can turn on notifications. Well, after I get home from work that is.

I think I'm going to have to get used to that response. I swear I'm not crazy!

I haven't seen it in foreeeeeever, geez. And that part I could've wished to forget. XD

Sure, that'd work. I'd be much obliged~

Lots of suggestions for the Dark Crystal, hehe. He says he might've seen that one already, though - on BetaMax. XD

What about the suggestion of Jim Henson's Storyteller. It sounds like a close match

For the show? I already looked at the description of it on Wikipedia, and while it sounds kinda neat, I don't think that's it. None of the stories that were told in it really match up to what I recall.
