Man, Mom's new camera certainly doesn't act like it's 8 megapixels. Feh.
Yes, yes, I know. Wrong finger. It's slightly too small - we're going to take it in next week to get it all propersized. It's very shiny, even though that's not so well conveyed by the pictures. If you look at it from the side, you can see the whole diamond, while looking at it straight on, the setting is solid.
As for the proposal, it was just after the tobogganing - after the last run where we both bailed off the sled and were ouching, he suggested we go sit down for a bit up at the top of the hill. We trudged up the one more time, and used the snow and the sled to make a kind of bench. Now, this was up on Burnaby Mountain, mind - not quite SFU, but near the fancy restaurant that's there. There's a pretty darned big slope coming down from Burnaby Mountain Park towards the restaurant's entry road, and that's where everyone about goes to slide. It's also the side of the mountain facing downtown Vancouver and the 'burbs of outer Burnaby, and was also just slipping into twilight. So we sat to recover from the bumps and bruises, and watched as all the city lights flicker on - was quite pretty; I'd never been up there at night before. Chatted a little, about the trip and the end of school, and all. And then he said that it was the end of a phase in our lives, and stood up, coming 'round to face me from my perch on the pseudobenchsled. He said he wanted me there for every other phase, too. He dropped to a knee (on the snow, mind), pulled the ring box out from his coat pocket and opened it, and asked me to marry him. (Was a sturdy metal box, thankfully; the sledding didn't all bang it up.) I had my suspicions that it was coming - it seemed a little odd that he wanted to stick around the mountain 'for a rest' right as dusk fell - but I was still speechless for a moment or two. Obviously I found my voice eventually, since I have the ring and all.
Now I just have to find a way to tell the folks. XD
