It's been a nice and quiet week or two. Of course, the two weeks before that, everything was crazy and chaotic. That vacation was earned, damnit.
One way or another, though, we got married, and spent a nice relaxing week in Victoria. The wedding itself turned out to be pretty awesome - pictures turned out well, food was good, and the party was excellent. Now I just have a shit-ton of thank-you cards to send out, sigh.
Victoria wasn't really anything I hadn't seen before (having been there before a couple of times and all), but the hotel we were in was really nice (our room had a really nice view of the harbour, and we could see the Empress and legislative buildings both from it), and it was good to just have nothing to do. Hence, we shopped and went to museums and stuffed ourselves silly and read books. Secondhand bookstores are deceptively dangerous, by the way. Also, horse-drawn carriage tours are nice, and definitely should be no longer than ninety minutes, 'cause that's right when your bottom starts to get tetchy from the carriage bench.
I've done almost nothing this past week but find homes for wedding presents and clean up the mess that accompanied the storm of last-minute wedding arrangements. Next week, though, time to start getting those cards done, and maybe even look for a job.
There is just one problem facing me, and it is definitely of the first-world variety. We went to a berry farm yesterday and did some picking for the cheap, and came back with 25 lbs of strawberries and 10lbs of raspberries. Some of the berries found a home with my parents, but that still left us with four buckets of strawberries and eight pints of raspberries. So far I've made a pie and done berry-laden waffles and Travis has been steadily eating away at them - he's got almost an unlimited capacity for fruit - but damn, I don't know what we're going to do with them all. I'll do some berry lemonade and smoothies, I'm sure - maybe even homemade ice cream once I pick up my thing from Home Outfitters, but seriously, there will still be berries out the ears.
...But I can only do more berry cooking once the pile of dishes is done. I feel like I've done nothing this weekend but pick berries, eat berries, and do dishes. It's like a goddamn revolving door of dishes around here. Damn old apartments and their lack of dishwashers!
